Mecklenburg County commissioners have agreed on funding for the Romare Bearden park. Groundbreaking is set for September 2, Bearden's 100th birthday!
JULY
Central Piedmont Community College Elizabeth Ross Gallery presents Critical Culture: Remembering Romare Bearden, featuring regional artists Tonya Gregg, Ginny Boyd, and David Wilson who embraced Bearden’s vision through an examination of contemporary vernacular culture. July 19- September 9.
AUGUST
Davidson College Van Every/Smith Galleries presents Kendall Buster: Permanent Installations, the artist commissioned to create sculpture for the planned Romare Bearden Park, August 26- October 26. Opening reception is August 25, 7- 9pm.

Mint Museum Uptown will celebrate Community Homecoming Weekend, a final chance to view Romare Bearden: Southern Recollections exhibition, with gallery tours, performances, music, and extended evening hours on Friday and Saturday, January 6-8.
