The MintWiki and The Mint Museum Library for High School Students
Are you a high school student looking for
resources for a school project?
Come visit The Mint Museum Library!
We have resources to make your work stand out
High school students! You've heard about the Maya people, but have you ever held a Maya codex in your hands? (Pssst! We have an exact replica!) You've visited the Mint Museum before and picked out your favorite piece, but what inspired the artist to create it? Did you know the Mint Museum at Randolph has a library offering more information to answer questions you have about art that you've seen and other art as well? We have primary and secondary resources (and much, much more) here for you to use!
We have special artist files on American artists, North Carolina artists and artists whose work is held by the Mint, including exhibition catalogs, news clippings, and journal articles.
Our librarian will be happy to assist you with art reference!
We carry current exhibition catalogs from other museums. If you aren't able to visit an exhibition in Atlanta or Chicago, we may carry the catalog for it here in Charlotte!
We have more than 60 different titles of magazines and journals on art, decorative arts, crafts, historic dress and costuming.
Who are you? What are you looking for?
How can we help you make connections between art and life?
Do you need help with a paper? Mintwiki's High School Research page can point you to resources on art, artists, art history, techniques, aspects of theater, and photography.
Using the Library:
All Library spaces are open to the public, but you need to make an appointment to visit; all you need to do is fill out the appointment chart on this page.
Our library materials are non-circulating, which means you can't check them out. We do offer photocopying and scanning though. You should bring a flash drive to hold your scans.
You don't need to wait to start looking for books, you can access our catalog right now! MARCO is our library catalog, where you can search for books, magazines and journals about your topic. MARCO also has a great list of Art Links that you can use as launching points before your visit.
That's not all though, we need your help to make this Mint Wiki work for you. If there is something else that you think would be helpful to include on our Wiki, let us know!
Fun Art Links
This is one of our favorite music videos here in the Mint Museum Library. The Franco-American band Hold Your Horses recreates classic works of art in their music video- how many can you identify?
We love the Brooklyn Museum Teen Guide to Art! Although it is based out of another museum, it explains how to read the labels next to works of art, what the accession numbers mean and things to consider while exploring an art gallery. How inspiring!!
The Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, through the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a priceless resource and launching point for students looking for inspiration.
Among the many gems of the MoMA's website, the interactive MoMA Multimedia page is addicting.
To keep up with events happening at the Mint Museum, be sure to Like our Facebook page!! We have trivia, links to events, special news updates and reviews about current and upcoming exhibits!
