The exhibition focuses on the recent work of six North Carolina craft artists working in a range of media. They represent the vitality, diversity and complexity of work presented by a new generation of North Carolina artists. Selected for the quality of their work, the artists, visually and conceptually, exemplify the rich future of craft history in this region. The artists are Vivian Beer, Devin Burgess, Cristina Córdova, Anne Lemanski, Brent Skidmore, and Jerilyn Virden.

  • Brent Skidmore has been named the Director of the future UNC-Asheville Craft Campus, which will open in 2010-11.
  • Skidmore is a featured artist and guest speaker at the The Barton Art Galleries of Wilson and the Hobson Pittman Memorial Gallery of Tarboro presention of "Past and Present: Celebrating Two Centuries of North Carolina Decorative Arts" . Jerilyn Virden - Ceramics - Sandblasted clay forms bridging the gap between the vessel and modernist sculpture

  • Jerilyn Virdin website . She was artist-in-residence at Penland School of Crafts from 2001-2004.
  • Virdin's Two Chambered Bowl which won the National Council on Education for the Ceramic ArtsPurchase Award in 2003.

The book, which was published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Mint Museum of Craft + Design in 2004, provides a history and describes attending the school.
