Tony DiTerlizzi has long been recognized as one of this generation’s leading authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults. Never Abandon Imagination features a rich and compelling selection of more than 150 original works by the artist, ranging from paintings and sketches from his childhood and college years through many illustrations for his popular children’s books, including images from Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, The Spiderwick Chronicles, and more. It will be the Mint Museum’s first major exhibition of the art of book illustration in recent history.
DiTerlizzi’s wide-ranging, highly imaginative work reveals the ability of art to inspire, delight, and provide a respite from the everyday world. Drawing on a long history of illustration work, but using his vision, talent, sense of humor and wonder to give his art its own unique twist, DiTerlizzi creates compelling characters that draw viewers into fantastic worlds and bring stories to life in a vivid, engaging manner. Never Abandon Imagination is certain to delight not only the museum’s young visitors, but the young-at-heart of all ages.
