Reveal: uncover something that has been concealed. Clarify or untangle a mystery.       Detonate: Set off an explosive charge.

Featuring the work of more than 40 of Mexico’s leading contemporary photographers drawn from the Televisa Foundation’s collection, Reveal and Detonate (Develar y Detonar) makes its North American debut at the Mint Museum after having been seen in Mexico and Spain. It promises to open an engaging dialogue around the power of photography to both document and question many aspects of modern life, examining issues that stretch across cultures and borders. The photographers featured in the exhibition take a wide range of technical and conceptual approaches to their subject matter, which itself is equally diverse, ranging from stunning views of the country’s landscape to unflinching images of some of the country’s most pressing problems. Some works are highly formal; others make a play for sheer beauty. Still others are manipulated or staged to instill a sense of magic and wonder.

Reveal and Detonate (Develar y Detonar) is the central exhibition in a community-wide initiative entitled In Focus/Enfoque celebrating Mexican photography.  Cultural institutions participating include: Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, McColl Center for Art + Innovation, The Light Factory, LaCa Projects, and SOCO Gallery. Some photographers will be exhibited in more than one venue allowing the artist to show different aspects of their work. Other photographer's work will only be able to be seen in a single venue. The list of artists below for Reveal and Detonate includes multiple venue information if appropriate or identifies an artist as part of another single In Focus/Enfoque exhibition.
